A Chinese National plead not guilty to charges of assault by causing bodily harm before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku.
The court was on Friday, 16 April told that Zhao Wentao assaulted a female friend of Cambodian citizenship after a night of drinking in his house.
According to court documents, the complainant was in the company of the accused and Zheng Yongjin (a friend of the accused) inside the accused’s house at Kings Millennium apartment, Embakasi, Nairobi.
The complainant claimed that after having drinks on the evening of Wednesday, 31 March, she wanted to leave with Zheng, the friend to the accused
Who had invited her at the accused’s house for drinks but he was too drunk to leave so she let the two Chinese nationals to catch some sleep in the sleeping room while she stayed in the other.
Later into the night the complainant went inside the bedroom to wake Zheng, her and in the process and altercation ensued and the Cambodian citizen was injured on her left eye.
The complainant told the court she left the accused’s house for the parking lot where she called another Chinese who took her to Coptic hospital for treatment.
The Chinese national was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000.
In February 2020, four Chinese nationals who were accused of caning their Kenyan workers at their Kileleshwa restaurant in Nairobi have begged the court to deport them.
Appearing before High Court Judge Luka Kimaru, the four — Liu Jiang, Wang Kai, Zhao Liangbin and Li Shaoqing — said they are willing to be deported.
The prosecution sought time to get directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
At the same time, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti opposed their application at the trial court where they wanted the court to reduce their 15-day detention.
