Bodaboda rider dies after head-on collision with police car
By Diaz Kiplele, October 31, 2025A bodaboda rider has died following a head-on collision with a police Land Cruiser at Kabarnet town in Baringo Central.
The accident, which happened on Friday, October 31, 2025, morning, sparked tension as irate locals threatened to set the vehicle ablaze before police officers arrived and managed to calm the situation.
Benard Kibichii, an eyewitness, claimed that the police vehicle was speeding and driving in the wrong lane, forcing the deceased to swerve in an attempt to avoid the collision. Unfortunately, he collided with the vehicle and passed away instantly.
“We are deeply aggrieved by this incident and shocked as the bodaboda fraternity. It is disheartening that the same police officers we depend on to enforce road safety are now the ones involved in causing fatal accidents. In fact, the spot where the vehicle hit the deceased is not a blind corner; it’s a clear and open road.” Kibichii told K24 digital.

According to Joel Kiplagat, a relative of the deceased, the rider had left home early in the morning to attend to his daily routine. He is said to have been heading back home for breakfast when he met his tragic death. Kiplagat blamed the police for recklessness leading to the fatal crash.
“In the morning, he left for his usual hustle just like any other day. But as he was returning home to organize a few things, we received the heartbreaking news that he had been involved in an accident. It’s unfortunate that I am now here looking at his lifeless body,” Kiplagat, the elder father of the deceased, stated.

Addressing the issue, Baringo County Police Commandant Julius Kiragu sent his condolences to the bereaved family and urged all eyewitnesses to record statements to aid in investigations. He assured that the police department would cater to funeral expenses and ensure justice is served.
“As the police service, we will cater for all expenses following the death of the bodaboda rider who lost his life after being involved in a tragic accident with our vehicle. Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by this incident.” Kiragu noted.
Kiragu further appealed to motorists to exercise caution, observe speed limits, and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
