Billy Mwangi, one of the five abductees released on Monday, January 6, 2024, has broken his silence concerning posts that emerged online ostensibly from himself.
In a brief statement on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Mwangi cautioned Kenyans against believing any of the statements on X by pseudo-accounts impersonating him, noting that his real account had been hacked and his phone confiscated.
“Those guys using X parody accounts are not me. Currently, I am not on X. My X account was hacked and my phone was confiscated (during the abduction) but I shall update you guys in due course,” Mwangi stated.
Mwangi who was abducted for 16 days and spent both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day in the hands of his abductors admitted that his head was shaved during the ordeal.
Mwangi mentally scarred
“To my X team and those from Nairobi and Embu, I love you so much. Even though they shaved my head, I am back and healing. I am recuperating well physically, however, mentally, there is still a problem but I will be fine,” Mwangi assured.
Mwangi was abducted on December 21, 2024, in Embu after he visited a barber shop in the area.
He would later reveal that he was put in a dark room for 15 days and underwent a traumatic ordeal which he is yet to heal from despite being reunited with his family.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, equally released from the abductors was Peter Muteti who was unable to speak after his abductors set him free.
“Peter Muteti released this morning; his family confirms. He was abducted on 21st December at his apartment outside Nairobi,” CNN journalist Larry Madowo confirmed on Monday, January 6, 2025.
“Hey Larry, Peter has been released. He is currently with family. He is quite disoriented and not able to talk and give interviews at the moment,” he posted on his X handle.
Abductees released
The other abductees released on Monday, January 6, 2025, were cartoonist Gideon Kibet and his brother Ronny Kiplangat.
Kiplangat was abducted outside a Seventh-Day Adventist church on December 21, 2024, while his brother Kibet was abducted three days later after having a meeting with Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah in Nairobi.
Kiplangat was dropped in Machakos and given transport money by his abductors.
In a statement on Monday, January 6, 2025, evening, police said they were actively investigating the cases of all missing persons in the country.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating all cases of missing persons in the country with most of the cases currently pending before the court and others under active investigations,” police spokesperson Resila Onyango said.
