The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill has been passed by at least 24 counties, paving way for the Bill to be tabled in Parliament before a nationwide Referendum can take place.

As of noon Tuesday, 28 County Assemblies had voted to pass the Bill.

The 27 counties are: Trans Nzoia, Kisii, Kajiado, Nairobi, Taita Taveta, Murang’a, Bungoma, Nyeri, Mombasa, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Busia, West Pokot, Laikipia, Samburu, Kakamega, Narok, Vihiga, Nyamira, Lamu, Nyandarua, Garissa, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Nakuru and Kirinyaga.

A majority of the county assemblies unanimously voted to pass the BBI Bill.

After the Bill is endorsed by the county assemblies, it is expected to be tabled in both Houses of Parliament (National Assembly and the Senate), where a simple majority will be needed to pave way for a Referendum.
