Babu Owino: Even if Sakaja is given ODM ticket, I’ll beat him in 2027
By William Muthama, October 13, 2025Embakasi West Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has vowed to continue pursuing his dream of becoming Nairobi governor, even if ODM hands the gubernatorial ticket to Johnson Sakaja.
Speaking during a radio interview on Monday, October 13, 2025, Owino said the party’s decision will not deter him from pursuing leadership and serving the people.

“I know that Sakaja will be given the ticket for ODM, and I know how much I’m hated in our own house, but that will not prevent me from chasing my dreams,” he said.
Owino framed his prospects as divinely guided, insisting his “ticket is in the hands of God.” He traced his journey from Nyalenda to Parliament as evidence of a providential path:
“God has our ticket. God knows about us. He knows why he removed me from the village to Nyalenda slums, from Nyalenda slums to Nairobi, from Nairobi to Parliament.”

Faith over favour
The MP highlighted that while party nominations are an internal matter, his confidence rests on faith and grassroots support rather than party endorsement.

“The ticket might go. But our ticket is in the hands of God,” Owino said, stressing that ODM’s choice is theirs alone to make.
He also declined to discuss campaign tactics publicly: “Sometimes you don’t share strategy in public because your enemies are also listening.”
Owino framed his political survival as tied to perseverance and divine backing, not merely party machinery. He urged followers to recognise the long arc of his public life and to trust the process.
“I know my journey and I know how I’m going to reach where I’m going by the grace of God,” he said.
Nonetheless, Owino made it clear he is ready to compete in 2027 regardless of ODM’s internal outcome.
He insisted that being unpopular in party circles will not stop him from seeking office and argued that leadership is ultimately determined by voters and, in his words, by God.
Owino’s remarks follow recent tensions with ODM, especially regarding broad-based governance.
