Babu Owino: Citizens must oust leaders who fail to deliver

By , August 28, 2025

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called on Kenyans to take action against leaders who fail to serve the people, insisting that citizens have the right to remove such leaders from office.

Speaking in a TV interview on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the outspoken legislator said that the country should break one law to save millions of citizens from bad leadership rather than allow ineffective governance to persist.

According to Babu, the government exists to serve the people, and once it fails in that mandate, then the people must step in.

“If the government cannot deal with the problems facing Kenyans, then citizens should take it upon themselves to oust such leaders from office,” he said.

Babu Owino on corruption

The MP further turned his guns on corruption, describing it as the greatest enemy holding Kenya back. He accused corrupt leaders of crippling the country’s economy and denying citizens basic services such as education, healthcare, and proper infrastructure.

“Corruption is what has dragged this nation down. If the President has truly declared war on corruption, then it must be fought by everyone, not selectively,” Babu argued.

“The fight against corruption must not divide Kenyans. It must unite us all in demanding accountability.”

His remarks come at a time when the government has stepped up its anti-graft rhetoric, with senior officials vowing to bring to justice individuals implicated in massive financial scandals. Babu, however, cautioned that selective prosecution and political witch hunts would only weaken the credibility of the anti-corruption drive.

Call for accountability

Babu’s bold statements underline his growing profile as one of the most vocal critics of the government. By urging citizens to directly hold leaders accountable, the MP is tapping into widespread public frustration over corruption, unemployment, and the rising cost of living.

He maintained that Kenya can only move forward if its leadership is held to higher standards.

“Kenya cannot continue suffering under incompetence and corruption,” he added.

The Embakasi East MP’s remarks are expected to stir debate in political circles, with allies and opponents likely to interpret them as a direct challenge to both the government and the political establishment.
