An Administration Police (AP) officer and a G4S employee were on Monday morning arrested after they attempted to rob a bartender.
Constable Elly Nyakomita attached to Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Embu and G4S’s Seth Odhiambo had gone to H.E.N.U Club in Obama estate off Kangundo Road where they allegedly had one too many.
After their drinking spree, the the AP officer produced a pair of handcuffs and they both demanded money, threatening to arrest, handcuff and arrest her.
The proprietor, Euphemia Akinyi, raised alarm and police officers on patrol responded.
They arrested the two and established that the duo were a police officer and a G4S employee respectively.
Police have launched investigations and seized the pair of handcuffs for use as an exhibit.
“The investigations are to establish if they had intended to commit robbery or they were just acting out of drunkenness. Drunkenness is, however, not excuse for crime,” a senior officer aware of the investigation told K24 Digital.
The arrest brings to over 70, the number of officers arrested in the last two months for various criminal or corrupt activities.
Last week, a General Service Unit (GSU) officer was arrested and one of his accomplices killed in an operation where two AK47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition.
The officer was linked to the brutal murder of a woman and murder, a shooting that also left a man seriously in Katani, Machakos County.
The office of the Inspector General has also launched a crackdown on rogue police officers leading to recent arrest of rogue officer.
Last month, the IG Hillary Mutyambai directed that all officers who had served in their current stations for more than three years be transferred immediately.
The directive is yet to be heeded.
