Seven people died on the spot and an unknown number injured in a Friday night road crash involving a 14-seater matatu and a truck at Lwandeti area in Kakamega County on the Eldoret-Webuye highway.

The matatu, belonging to North Rift Shuttle, was headed to Bungoma from Eldoret, whereas the truck was headed towards Eldoret from Kampala, Uganda.

Matete Police Station OCS, Julius Kombo, says the accident occurred after a motorbike lost control and rammed into the oncoming matatu, and the truck, which was being driven right behind the motorcycle, also smashed into the matatu, killing seven on the spot.

The injured were taken to a Kakamega hospital.
