Thugs kill watchman in cold blood, steal property in Embu shops

Police in Embu have launched investigations into brutal murder of a night watchman in Embu town .

The gang struck at around 3 am before cornering the watchmen and killing one on the spot.

According to eyewitnesses, the hapless watchman tried to protect himself from the robbers but they overpowered him and hit him on the head with an object.

They then stole valuable goods worth thousands of shillings.

Margaret Gikundi, who operates a bar that was among the shops robbed, said that he lost all crates of beer in his shop.

Gikundi said it is now the fourth time when her shop was broken into by robbers stating that cases of insecurity had increased in recent days.

She said that it was an unfortunate incident that the robbers killed the watchman instead of picking valuables that they wanted and spared the life of the watchman.

“Now, they have taken the life of the watchman and stole our goods. It’s very unfortunate,” said Gikundi.

She called on police officers to move with speed and ensure the culprits are brought to book.

Ms Gikundi also urged security operators to ensure security is beefed up during the curfew hours within Embu town.

He said as business people, they are incurring losses through robbery and noted there is need for fixing security within Embu town.

Nathan Kariuki said their businesses are no longer safe following the increased insecurity.

Kariuki urged police to pull up their socks and ensure security during curfew hours.

Efforts to get a comment from police through Embu West Sub-county police commander Nick Kipkorir were futile.

The body of the deceased was taken to Embu Level Five Hospital pending investigations to a certain the motive of the killing and theft.
