Members of Parliament (MPs) are set to have another tough time in churches this week as Kenya’s Generation Z kicks off another 7-day schedule of protests.

In a post shared by activist Boniface Mwangi on Saturday, June 29, 2024, the antigovernment protesters will occupy churches on Sunday, June 30, 2024, to deny politicians a platform to speak.

Churches hosting politicians

Mwangi in the statement made through his official X account asked Kenyans to do an X thread showing different churches that will be hosting politicians.

“Can someone do a thread on where politicians will be this Sunday so that team Mwabili Magodi can show up. Deplatform politicians from your places of worship,” Mwangi stated.

MPs kicked out

The activist pointed out that the the lawmakers should be kicked out of the churches, and termed them as killers.

He insists that no politician should be offered a platform in any church at a time when Kenyans are mourning the lives of the young men and women who died while fighting for their rights during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 and subsequent anti-government protests.

“Kenyans are mourning, and instead of our clergy condemning the killings, they’re dining with the killers. Kick Mpigs out!” Mwangi added.

Mwangi’s new protest schedule comes after the completion of another 7-day schedule he had issued earlier, which also included occupying churches.

First Lady Rachael Ruto is a victim of the new wave of protests after Gen Z forced the clergy to cancel a church event she was set to grace.

First Lady’s event cancelled

The Generation Z cornered Lavington United Church, compelling its leadership to cancel a fundraiser event scheduled for Sunday, June 30, 2024, in which the First Lady was the Chief Guest.

The event aimed to raise funds for the completion of a sanctuary in Lavington, Nairobi.

The event has since been cancelled after online calls on the congregants to occupy the church in protest.

Gen Z started a fight against the event after the invitation card for the fundraiser circulated online.

Kenyans argued that they are still grappling with the recent deaths of protestors shot by police officers during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.

This is one of the events that was scheduled at various churches this weekend that are being cancelled over fears of repercussions from some of those who may attend.

This follows online calls on congregations in churches not to allow political leaders to use the pulpit in any manner for their gains.
