Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has condemned police brutality following the death of 24-year-old Rex Kanyike protester who succumbed to gunshot wounds on Thursday, June 20, 2024, during the ongoing anti-Finance Bill protest in Nairobi County.

In a statement published on Friday, June 21, 2024, Ledama faulted the use of excessive force by police officers on unarmed protesters who were exercising their democratic rights.

Ledama further stated that the police went against the Geneva Convention which states how officers and civilians should be treated during war.

“You don’t have to kill! These are our children who are unarmed. It is a war crime! Against the Geneva Convention. Very unfortunate! More power to the Gen Zs I salute you!, “Ledama said.
