Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has announced that she will not join the youth in the Finance Bill 2024 protests planned for this week.

Responding to a Kenyan on X who had asked her to join the youth in the streets to protest the Finance Bill 2024, Karua declined the invitation saying she would support them from the sidelines.

“Supporting from the sidelines and cheering you on. My generation needs to let our children and grandchildren own and lead this because you guys are doing it better than we have ever done it. I believe absence of the political elite makes it difficult if not impossible to infiltrate, co-opt or compromise. Just know that you have my support,” she stated.

A Kenyan using the X handle @tomndirangu had requested Karua to join the youth on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to protest the Bill.

To our matriarch H.E mama @MarthaKarua, show up on Tue to our Demos unexpectedly, stand in solidarity with our quest for good governance, favourable business environment and a better life for all. We need your voice and your guidance,” the user said.

Karua also says she has been organising legal support for protestors, something she promised to keep doing.

In a program dubbed ‘7 days of Rage’ that began on Friday, June 21, 2024, young Kenyans announced plans meant to mount pressure on MPs to reject Finance Bill 2024.

On Monday, June 24, 2024, the protesters will storm the constituency offices of the lawmakers who voted in favour of the Bill, to tell them off for betraying Kenyans and kicking off the process of boycotting their businesses and collecting of signatures for their recall.

The protesters will then lead a nationwide strike on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, aimed at leading to a total shutdown of the country and also storming parliament buildings.

They will then visit the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and Inspector General of Police offices on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to demand justice for slain protestor Rex Masai.

They are also planning to block main roads leading to Nairobi on Thursday, June 27, 2024, and lead an ‘Occupy State House’ protest.
