Activist Boniface Mwangi is fearing for his life, moments after he issued a 7-day schedule of the Anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.

Mwangi on Friday, June 21, 2024, announced that he had survived a possible kidnapping attempt.

Through his official X account, the vocal activist said people he suspected to have been detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tried to pick him up but failed.

Staying offline

He notified his followers that he will be switching off his phones and keeping off social media for the time being.

“I just survived a possible kidnapping attempt by DCI officers. Anyone who stands between the will of the people shall fail. I’m going to be offline. Continue with the struggle!” Boniface Mwangi stated.

This comes barely hours after Boniface Mwangi notified his followers of the demonstrations scheduled for the next seven days.

Mwangi on Friday announced via his social media platforms that the demonstrations against the Finance Bill 202 were to kick off today (Friday, June 21, 2024), until Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Demonstration schedule

On the first day of the demonstration schedule, Mwangi said the youth supporting the Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests were supposed to gather at the City Mortuary, where the body of the slain protester Rex is lying.

From the City Mortuary, they would attend Juma prayers at Jamia Mosque in Nairobi, after which they would give water to those leaving after the prayers.

The second day, Saturday, June 22, 2024, will see Gen Z gather at nightclubs, to have all the bars and clubs stop the music to listen to Anti-Finance Bill 2024 chants.

“Day 1. Friday, 21st June: After City Mortuary, attend Juma prayers at Jamia Mosque, and give water to those leaving after the prayers. Day 2. Saturday 22nd June: At midnight, all bars and clubs where Gen Z frequent will stop the music to listen to a national crescendo of: Ruto must go, and Reject Finance Bill,” Mwangi said.

Betrayal by MPs

He also accused the Members of Parliament of giving President William Ruto the right to do wrong after they passed the Finance Bill 2024 to the committee stage, despite the objection it faced.

“Despite our collective cry rejecting Finance Bill 2024, Parliament gave Zakayo the right to do wrong to 54 million Kenyans.

“We reject the Finance Bill in its entirety. And despite our peaceful protests, police have responded with bullets, killing two of our own, maiming many others and one person is in critical condition. We refuse to be silenced, so we’re marching on,” he stated.
