Police in Embu are investigating an incident where thugs broke into the residence of Embu Senior Principal Magistrate and stole valuables worth Ksh105,000.

Police reports indicate the robbers broke into Henry Nyakwemba’s house over the weekend while he was away.

The magistrate, stationed at Embu Law Courts, said he had gone to visit his family in Nairobi when he learnt about the incident on Sunday.

“I had gone to see my family in Nairobi when I was informed of the incident on Sunday night by one of my workers who resides in the servant quarters. The woman reported the matter to the police immediately,” Nyakwemba said.

He disclosed that the thieves gained access to his residence through the fence before they proceeded to break the door leading to his house.

The thieves stole a fridge, television set, water dispenser and home theatre.

“I really don’t know how they managed to break the door because it had strong reinforcement. We suspect that they had strong tools which they used to break into the house through the kitchen backdoor,” Nyakwemba noted.

Insecurity in Embu

The judicial official further expressed concerns about increasing cases of theft in the area targeting senior government officials.

“The security issue has been a problem after the Kazi Mtaani program was stopped. There is a possibility that the thieves have been surveying this area for some time,” he claimed.

Police are said to have visited the crime scene with sniffer dogs but Nyakwemba said he is yet to be briefed on the progress of the investigations.

Embu West Sub-county Police Commander Julius Kyumbule confirmed the incident, saying no arrests have been made so far.

“I can confirm the theft happened and we are pursuing the matter and soon I know the culprits will be brought to book,” Kyumbule stated.
