Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja now wants the county to establish its own media house saying this would help in broadcasting initiatives the City Hall is undertaking.
Through a motion on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Sakaja proposed that the county develops a Nairobi City county broadcast service policy that will seek to establish a gubernatorial digital press unit, the county television and radio broadcast and a customer service directorate.
“County government acts dictate the mechanisms to facilitate public communication and access to information in the form of the media with the widest public outreach,” part of the motion reads.
Sakaja says that the county media house would be used to create awareness of devolution and governance, undertake advocacy and core development issues such as agriculture among others.
The proposal comes barely weeks after media personality Willis Raburu joined the county government’s communication department.
Raburu announced his exit from Royal Media Services in June after 13 years of service as a news anchor, entertainment show host, radio show and TV reporter.
He also revealed he is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Strategic Communication and Communication for Development at USIU.
