Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has refuted claims that he is eying the Chairperson of the Council of Governors’ seat.

Sakaja noted that his role at the helm of Nairobi requires his full dedication.

“To put the record clear, I am not presenting myself for election as Chair of CoG. The task in Nairobi requires 100% dedication and focus,” he wrote on Twitter.

This comes even as the governors and their deputies prepare for a conference set for Wednesday, September 14, in Mombasa.

During this period, they will also elect the Council of Governors (CoG) leadership.

The conference will be opened by Deputy President-elect Rigath Gachagua with President-elect William Ruto closing it on Friday.

The new Chair will take over from ex-Embu Governor Martin Wambora.

The first CoG Chairman was former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto who was succeeded by former Meru Governor Peter Munya in 2015.

In 2017 Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok became the third Chairman before handing over to Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
