President William Ruto today made a surprise appearance at the Parliament Buildings. The Head of State joined legislators and parliamentary staff for lunch at the National Assembly’s canteen before its afternoon sitting.

The President held interactions with lawmakers and the parliamentary staff, the August House said on its social media platforms.

“H.E. President Hon. (Dr.) William Ruto makes his way out of Parliament where he had dropped by, to join Legislators for lunch at the Members’ Canteen just before the afternoon Sitting. During his impromptu visit, the President interacted with legislators and Parliamentary staff,” the Parliament posted on their official Facebook page.

Ruto’s engagement with lawmakers came just hours after flagged off the inaugural consignment of tea to Ghana under the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

During the event at the KICC, Ruto stated that small-scale growers helped actualize Kenya’s tea export position, claiming that they provide 90% of what Kenya sells. According to Ruto, Kenya earned $1.1 billion (KSh 132 billion) from tea exports this year.

‘This gives us a platform for us to be able to realize our dream of taking Africa to its rightful place in matters of trade, investment and business,” Ruto said.
