Two armed robbers were on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, arrested in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

The thugs armed with crude weapons were part of a five-man gang that had been spotted terrorising members of the public heading home from work at around midnight.

The victims raised an alarm attracting the attention of some members of the public living nearby.

Unknown to the suspects, one of the first respondents to the scene was a member of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

The officer identified as Daniel Mumo opened fire on the suspects who were hiding in a thicket, injuring two.

The other three suspects, however, managed to escape arrest.

“Five thugs armed with crude weapons were hiding in the thicket while robbing members of the public on their way home. Some of the victims raised an alarm where members of the public responded and NIS Daniel Mumo also came,” a police report seen by K24 Digital stated.

The injured suspects were 28-year-old Musombi Kithoma and an unidentified male adult.

Police who responded to the scene recovered a toy pistol from the suspects.

Stolen items recovered from thugs

Other items believed to have been stolen from locals including a Sony TV screen, gas cooker, woofer, three pangas and a mobile phone were also recovered during the operation.

The unidentified male was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment while Musombi Kithoma was taken to Saitoti Level Four Hospital in Kitengela where he was treated and discharged in fair condition.

Police are currently pursuing the other three suspects still at large.
