Nairobi: One shot dead other succumb after firing engagement with patrol officers

One suspect was fatally shot as another fled with gunshot wounds before succumbing to his injuries on Monday, July 18, 2022, in Mowlem, Nairobi.

Officers on patrol received a tip-off from members of the public of two armed men riding on a motorcycle.

The officers set a trap near Jehovah Jire primary school where they challenged them making the suspects fire at the officers before fleeing.

A chase ensued and the police managed to shoot dead one of the suspects as the other escaped with serious gunshot wounds.

They conducted a search for the suspect who fled identified as Melvin Ngure and was arrested in Obama.

“Officers on patrol along Mwigenya bridge received information of two male adults on a motorcycle who were armed. They intercepted them at Jehovah Jire Primary school but the suspects fired at them before fleeing,” the Police report read in part.

The police recovered four rounds of 9mm ammunition and a homemade gun capable of firing.

“Melvin Ngure now deceased was arrested in Obama with serious gunshot wounds. During the incident, they recovered a homemade gun capable of firing and four rounds of 9mm,” the report further read.

Melvin succumbed to his injuries while on the way to Mama Lucy Hospital.

The two bodies were moved to City Mortuary.
