Mombasa: Man nabbed with bhang says it was for personal use

A Lithuanian national who was arrested at Mombasa International Airport with six rolls of bhang has pleaded guilty to charges of being in possession of narcotics.

Ajutis Tomas who appeared before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate, Vincent Adet informed the court that while transitioning to the United Kingdom through Mombasa airport he was arrested with six rolls and half-smoked bhang by KAA personnel.

According to Tomas, the bhang with a street value of Ksh700 had been sourced from Mombasa and was for his personal consumption on his way to the United Kingdom and upon his arrival.

The particulars further indicated that on May 5, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Mombasa terminal departures, a secondary screening machine detected a substance in a brown envelope. The samples were taken to the government chemist for analysis and turned positive for bhang.

Tomas will be sentenced on May 13.
