Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has voiced his dismay over a disturbing video circulating online, depicting a physical altercation between police officers and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel at Likoni Ferry.
Expressing his concern, Mutua noted the gravity of the situation and its implications for societal order.
“The clip of police engaging in a scuffle with KDF officers at Likoni Ferry should be a cause for concern. When you have people in uniform, carrying guns behaving that way then we are sliding into anarchy. The disciplined forces must live to their name otherwise we have no country,” Mutua remarked.
The viral video captured a KDF officer slapping a Kenya Ferry Service guard before turning his aggression towards a Kenya Police officer who attempted to intervene.
Surrounded by armed colleagues, the KDF officer continued to assault the police officer as onlookers witnessed the act.
In the footage, an unidentified woman can be heard questioning the sense of the confrontation, noting the shared responsibility of law enforcement personnel
“Ni nini? Mbona mnatufayia hivo? Sote tuko kazi moja mbona mnatufanyai hivi?”
Police, KDF altercation
In a statement earlier, KDF responded after the altercation noting that investigations were underway to establish what had transpired between the officers.
“To establish the circumstances leading to the incident, Military Police and requisite investigation agencies are currently handling the matter. The incident is highly regrettable. As KDF personnel, we are beholden to the core value of professionalism,” KDF said.

They said that military police and other appropriate investigative bodies were handling the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The KDF expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing their commitment to professionalism as core values for their personnel.
This marks the second such incident within a month, as previously, KDF officers were accused of a similar altercation with police officers at Lodwar police station.
In that instance, KDF soldiers allegedly slapped and disarmed a colleague at a roadblock.
According to police reports, the altercation occurred when KDF officers, travelling in a water bowser, encountered police at a roadblock.
One officer was reportedly disarmed while manning the roadblock in the Mt Kenya area, accompanied by three other officers from the Turkana County enforcement department.
