Court directs Litein parents to pay Ksh10K for form 4 students to be re-admitted for exams
By Zipporah Ngwatu, October 21, 2025A Kericho High Court has directed the parents of students of Litein Boys High School to first pay Ksh10,000 for each student for them to be re-admitted to school to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The Litein Boys High School Board of Management (BOM) had directed the parents of the form four students to each pay between Ksh20,000 and Ksh25,000 for smooth facilitation during the KCSE exam period.

Appearing before Justice Joseph Sergon on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Litein Principal Richard Kiprotich Sang said that the proposed amount is meant to ensure the students have a place to sit their exams, sleep, have food and buy equipment that was destroyed and is essential for the final exam.
“My lord, the minimum we are talking about is to ensure that the students have a place to sleep comfortably, they must have a class to sit in, and they must have food. We are also buying equipment like computers for those doing computer and for physics because they were all destroyed; it is everything in totality,” Principal Sang told the court.
However, lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui, representing the parents, told the court that the set amount by the BOM is too high for their clients, citing the harsh economic situation, making it difficult for the parents to raise the proposed amount urgently.

Notably, they urged the court to direct the school to allow the parents to pay Ksh10,000 for each student for them to start their exam, which is supposed to start tomorrow on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
“My lord, there are those who cannot afford it, and that is why they have not reported to school; there are those who have been arm-twisted to pay that Ksh25,000. Our prayer is the court allows the students to pay Ksh10,000 for them to sit for their exams tomorrow,” lawyer Omari urged the court.
Justice Joseph Sergon directed the parents to pay the proposed Ksh25,000 in bits, starting with Ksh10,000, to enable smooth running of the school during examination time for the form fours.
“Each student is to pay Ksh10,000 and be admitted back to school, and then in a week’s time they should pay another Ksh10,000 or Ksh5,000 so that they complete the Ksh25,000 before the end of the exam period,” Justice Sergon directed.
