A 13-year-old pupil in class seven took his own life by hanging at their home in Kangutu Village, Mariani Ward in Tharaka Nithi County on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Confirming the incident, Meru South Sub-County Police Commander Eunia Onyancha said at around 10:40 am, officers received reports of a suicide case involving a class seven pupil and proceeded to the scene in Kangutu Village.

Upon arrival, they established that the 13-year-old had hung himself. The lifeless body was discovered by the mother at around 7 am.

No suicide note was discovered at the scene as it remains unclear why the boy decided to take his life.

According to Onyancha, investigations are underway to determine the cause of the tragic incident. She noted that it was not the first time the 13-year-old boy had tried to commit suicide.

The Sub-County Police Commander urged parents to talk to their children, saying it was vital for them to understand the problems their children may be undergoing.
