The County government of Kajiado now says that the six-storey building that collapsed in Ololua in Ngong, Kajiado County on the evening of Wednesday, September 28, 2022, was not approved.

Speaking to K24 Digital, Kajiado County Executive Committee (CEC) member of Lands and planning Hamilton Parseina said the building contractor acquired a 4-storey building approval from the county in 2020 but illegally added two more floors.

He added that the building had a false signboard with a non-existing county serial number.

Parseina additionally stated that the building had a signboard of the National Construction Authority (NCA) while records showed that the contractor was not registered with the regulatory body.

The CEC assured residents that they are working with relevant authorities to ensure that the rogue contractor is brought to book for risking lives.

The building came tumbling down on Wednesday evening at around 8:00 pm but luckily no fatalities were reported.

Construction workers had left the scene at the time of the incident.

According to the residents, the building slowly began curving in, forcing passersby to scamper for safety before it eventually came down.

The residents are now calling on concerned stakeholders to keenly monitor buildings under construction to avert such disasters.

The incident comes barely two months after another three-storey building under construction collapsed in Kitengela killing two on the spot and leaving several others seriously injured.
