Former Kipipiri Member of Parliament Amos Kimunya has revealed that his late wife, Lucy Wanjiru trusted him with all financial decisions in their home.

Speaking during her funeral service on Friday, February 2, 2024, in Nairobi, the former National Assembly Majority Leader noted that Lucy preferred the traditional joint bank account after their marriage and did not operate a personal bank account for the entire 35 years of their union.

He said he met Lucy in 1983 in college where they were both pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (B-com). They started dating and later held their wedding on October 29, 1988.

“In our entire married life, Lucy never operated a personal bank account. She preferred a joint account where all her income was deposited and she trusted me with all the financial decisions. All she asked for was shopping money and an M-pesa top-up,” Amos Kimunya stated.

Further, the former Cabinet minister hailed his late wife’s simplicity saying that although she was not materialistic, her love for handbags stood out.

“She was never moved by material things those who know her know her simplicity. Lucy, however, loved handbags and when we travelled we’d agree that it was a shopping holiday but she would always get more handbags,” the politician stated.

Amos Kimunya passionately stated that he knew Lucy loved him and would take a bullet for him.

“I’ll miss her dearly. I will always love her and I thank God for having given her to me for the last 40 years. Fare thee well my love,” he mourned her and announced her official memorial day on February 17, 2024, in Kipipiri in line with her wishes.

Kimunya confirmed the death of his wife in a statement on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

He said she passed away at the Nairobi Hospital where she was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

“It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that I wish to announce that this Tuesday morning at 3:00 am my dear wife Lucy went to be with the Lord while receiving care at Nairobi Hospital,” Kimunya said.

Amos Kimunya eulogised his late wife as an industrious woman who had a great impact on his personal and political life.

“She was a key pillar in both my personal and political life. She contributed immensely to making our society greener through various initiatives and supporters of the youth and women. Go well our dear Lucy, we will miss you dearly,” he stated.
