Two people have died due to strong winds that have hit the coast region since May 21, 2024, following Tropical Cyclone Ialy.

Coast region police commandant George Sedah said among the victims is a four-year-old pupil in areas of Kayafungo Kaloleni subcounty.

“The four-year-old is reported to have died after chaos erupted after the strong winds began sweeping across the region,” Sedah said.

The police boss further called on coastal residents to exercise caution.

“The pupil was inside Gogoraruhe Mosque ECD School when the strong winds hit the roof of the mosque, destroying it,” Sedah said.

Sedah said that the National Police Service had dispersed its officers to the villages.

“Security apparatus within the coast region is monitoring the effects of the rains, and as such, we have sent various teams to the ground to enable us to get an accurate report of the situation and the unfortunate tragedy,” he said.

“We have sent teams to check in villages and report back on the veracity of the tragedy.”
