World Cup: 4 England stars running risk of suspension

Four members of England’s Three Lions run the risk of being suspended for a potential World Cup semi-final as the team prepares for a quarter-final clash against Norway on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in Miami.

The quarterfinal clash will be the second of the last eight games, coming after France entertains Morocco in the first of the last eight meetings on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Boston.

Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Marc Guéhi, and Nico O’Reilly are all a caution away from a one-game ban heading to the decisive matchup.

Meanwhile, captain Harry Kane is not one of them despite footage showing the England star being booked in the build-up to Mexico’s penalty in the 3-2 win.

Guehi booked, Not Kane

The Bayern Munich man was booked for a clumsy challenge on a Mexican player, conceding the penalty that Raúl Jiménez confidently put away.

It has, however, been confirmed that referee Alireza Faghani actually booked Guehi instead, as the England defender was delaying the penalty being taken.

Players who receive two knockout stage yellow cards before the semi-final will incur a one-match suspension. Thomas Tuchel’s side hopes to continue their winning run against European opposition and set up a semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland.

Yellow cards are wiped after the quarter-final stage, so the only way a player can be suspended for the World Cup final is if they are sent off in the semi-final.

Elsewhere, a resurgent Belgium faces a monumental test against the reigning European champions. After a slow start to their World Cup campaign, Rudi Garcia’s side will go head-to-head with the tournament favourites on Friday, July 10.

Semifinal duels

The winner from the clash will proceed to face the winner of the France vs. Morocco clash in the first semifinal on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Norway vs. England encounter will take on the winner of Argentina/Switzerland in the second semifinal on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
