World Cup: Date and time for the decisive quarterfinal clashes

Following the conclusion of the dramatic round of 16 games on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the 2026 World Cup now heads to the decisive quarterfinal phase.

The tournament has so far witnessed 96 out of 104 games from the expanded format, with only 8 matches remaining in total: four quarterfinals, two semifinals from the four teams that will advance from the last eight, one third-place playoff, and the much-awaited final on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Fixtures

The intense round kicks off this Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 pm as Didier Deschamps’ French side entertains Morocco in what will be a rematch of the 2022 World Cup semi-final, when France ended Morocco’s historic run in Qatar.

In yet another edition, the Atlas Lions have demonstrated they belong on the global stage and will face their sternest test yet against the offensive line led by Kylian Mbappe.

This comes amid a swift drop in ticket prices by more than half on the resale market for the World Cup quarterfinal matchups.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, Forbes reported the drop following the elimination of the USA, which was among the tournament co-hosts alongside Mexico and Canada, the other two hosts who have also since been eliminated.

The plummeting trend of nearly 60 per cent has also been attributed to Portugal’s elimination on Monday.
