Soggy Gusii pitch raises injury fears ahead of Shabana vs Murang’a SEAL
By Joel Masibo, March 29, 2026The sorry state of the Gusii Stadium playing surface has emerged as a point of discussion in matters of injury risks to players and the general flow of the game as Shabana FC hosts Murang’a SEAL for Round 26 of the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Ahead of the 2:00 pm kickoff, the visiting team, Murang’a SEAL, shared the latest photos of the playing surface at Gusii Stadium, shortly after the facility staged a rescheduled league clash between APS Bomet and Nairobi United, a fixture that was postponed on Saturday, March 28, 2026, owing to a heavy downpour that pounded the area on Saturday, rendering the pitch unplayable.
Despite the soggy state and the generally poor playing surface at Gusii due to drainage challenges, the home side is adamant about collecting maximum points at their fortress, a backyard that has proved difficult to win at for Shabana this season.
Shabana targeting maximum points
Heading into the fixture, Shabana have lost their last two league fixtures against Kariobangi Sharks and Gor Mahia, respectively. However, based on the message from their camp, the side is focused and eager to edge the visitors.

“Sunday, we’re going to put on a great performance against Murang’a Seal FC to try to win the game. Losing is always an opportunity to bounce back and show how much we want to win our games, and that is what we are fighting for,” the club said in a Facebook post on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Table outlook
Shabana head into the clash sitting fifth on the table with 40 points, having registered 30 goals while conceding 27. Despite a strong attacking return, their recent form raises concerns after suffering three consecutive defeats before bouncing back with two wins. Their defensive fragility is evident, having conceded at least two goals in each of their last three league outings.

On the other hand, Murang’a Seal, positioned just one place below in sixth with 38 points, have been slightly more prolific in front of goal with 33 strikes, while conceding the same number as Shabana (27). Their recent form has been mixed, with two wins, one draw, and two losses in their last five matches, reflecting inconsistency but also resilience.
