President William Ruto had a light moment with a Manchester United fan in Kisii on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

The light-hearted banter was captured on camera as the President, who claimed to be a supporter of English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal, engaged in a discussion on the league.

After exchanging greetings and getting to know the young man, Ruto remarked that he could see from the latter’s T-shirt that he is a supporter of the EPL club, Manchester United.

Mimi naona wewe ni mtu wa Man-U,” Ruto remarked with the young man who identified himself as Brian Atuti responding in the affirmative.

Ruto remarked that the club (Manchester United) is not doing so well at the moment, igniting a banter that the crowd followed keenly.

“Manu-U imefika wapi, naona they are not doing well,” Ruto continued amid laughter from the crowd.

“Juzi tumepiga Arsenali The other day we beat Arsenal,” Atuti responded, referring to the club’s 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Arsenal supporter

Ruto pushed the conversation further, jokingly telling Atuti not to boast so much, as he (the president) is an Arsenal fan.

The young man singled out former Prime Minister, the late Raila Odinga as the only ardent Arsenal fan.

“Mtu nilikwa najua wa Aresanli ni Baba, lakini saa hii hakuna mtu anaweza tushtua,” he said.

The banter ended with the President steering the conversation back to the programme that he went to launch in Kisii and engaging the young man on how he learnt of it and submitted his application.
