Oilers, Kabras and KCB storm into Dala Sevens quarterfinals
By Viola Kosome, August 2, 2026The race for the 2026 Dala Sevens title gathered momentum on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as Menengai Oilers, Kabras Sugar and reigning champions KCB secured places in the quarterfinals following commanding performances in the pool stage at Mamboleo Stadium.
Oilers produced a clinical display across their three matches, opening with a 17-0 victory over Kenya Harlequin before edging Blak Blad 14-5 and wrapping up their campaign with a convincing 26-0 win against Mombasa Sports Club.
Glacious Owino starred in the opening fixture with two tries, while Philip Okeyo also crossed the line as Oilers kept Harlequin scoreless.
Okeyo was again among the scorers against Blak Blad, with Abutwalib Wesonga adding a converted try to help the Nakuru-based side maintain its winning streak.
Kabras Sugar were equally dominant, brushing aside Strathmore Leos 33-10 before recording the biggest victory of the tournament so far with a ruthless 52-0 demolition of Embu.
Kabras fly-half Jackson Siketa attributed the team’s impressive run to good preparation and growing cohesion, saying the tournament is also helping the younger players gain valuable experience ahead of the Under-20 Barthes Cup in Uganda.
“We have prepared well, and the players are executing our game plan. The young boys are blending in well, and this competition is giving us the perfect opportunity to build combinations before the Barthes Cup,” Siketa said.
Reigning champions KCB also secured their place in the last eight after extending the fine form that earned them the Prinsloo Sevens title last weekend in Nakuru.
The bankers opened with a commanding 36-5 win over Impala before defeating Zetech University 43-12. They concluded the pool stage with a 19-19 draw against Masinde Muliro University, a result that was enough to send them through to the knockout phase.
Elsewhere, Mwamba defeated Kisumu RFC 26-17, Zetech stunned Impala 19-14, Strathmore Leos overwhelmed Embu 53-0, while Kenya Harlequin recovered from their opening defeat to beat Blak Blad 26-7.
KCB head coach Andrew Amonde said his side would approach the quarterfinals with confidence but remain focused on defending the title.
“We are taking one game at a time. The goal is to keep improving, reach the final and give ourselves the best chance of defending our title,” he said.
