Relief for FKF NEC member Abdullahi Yusuf as court halts his removal
By Zipporah Ngwatu, April 28, 2026A Kiambu High Court has issued a conservatory order blocking the removal of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Abdullahi Yusuf from office pending the hearing and determination of his application.
Yusuf was suspended alongside FKF President Hussein Mohammed and CEO Dennis Gicheru, who replaced Harold Ndege over the controversial misappropriation of Ksh42 million in funds for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Justice Bahati Mwamuye, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, has blocked the FKF NEC from suspending Yusuf from office or interfering in any way with his office pending the inter partes hearing and determination of the notice of motion application.
“A conservatory order be and is hereby issued restraining the respondent (National Executive Committee, Football Kenya Federation) from suspending, removing, or in any other way interfering with the petitioner’s (Abdullah) office and position at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the National Executive Committee, and related offices or bodies,” Judge Mwamuye ordered.

“In the event that any such adverse action has already been taken, the same be and is hereby stayed, and the status quo ante operating immediately before the said decision be and is hereby restored by order of this court pending the inter partes hearing and determination of the petitioner (Abdullah Yusuf) application,” Justice Mwamuye directed.
Fresh orders
The court directed the petitioner to serve the FKF NEC and the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, listed as the interested party in the matter, with the application, the petition, and the court order immediately and file an affidavit of service in that regard by close of business on April 29, 2026.
In his application, Yusuf argues that on April 24, 2026, a section of FKF members convened an NEC meeting and passed resolutions affecting him in his respective official capacity.

He states that the meeting was not convened by the president of the FKF as required under Article 38 of the federation’s constitution, and no notice thereof was issued by the general secretary or any competent organ of the federation.
The matter will be mentioned on May 19, 2026, to confirm compliance and to take directions on the expedited hearing and determination of the petition.
