PS Mwangi hails Kinoti after stealing show at junior fencing championship in Dakar
By Joel Masibo, February 20, 2026Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi has celebrated a historic moment for Kenyan sport following an extraordinary continental triumph by teenage fencing sensation Kiara Kinoti in Senegal.
At just 15 years old, Kinoti etched his name into Africa’s sporting history by clinching a gold medal in the Under-17 category at the Africa Cadet and Junior Championships Fencing Tournament held in Dakar, Senegal on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

Elijah Mwangi hailed the victory as a powerful symbol of Kenya’s expanding influence across a wide range of sporting disciplines, noting that the country’s sustained investment in nurturing talent is beginning to bear impressive results.
“This win is a testament to Kenya’s continued rise as a sporting giant in all sports. As a country, Kenya’s commitment to support and promote talents across diverse sporting disciplines is solid. For proudly flying Kenya’s flag high at the continental stage, we say hongera sana,” Mwangi said, extending heartfelt congratulations and encouragement to the young champion.
Kinoti’s remarkable performance saw him dominate a highly competitive field, showcasing exceptional skill, discipline, and composure well beyond his years.
”Wielding a Sabre like a warrior, Kinoti deflected, parried and launched impressive ripostes against opponents in spectacular moves that earned him the golden crown.” Mwangi added.

Elijha Mwangi further emphasised that Kenya is steadily rising as a sporting powerhouse, not only in traditional disciplines but also in emerging sports such as fencing.
As celebrations continue, Kinoti’s golden feat stands as an inspiration to young athletes across the country, proving that dedication, opportunity, and belief can propel Kenyan talent onto the global stage.
