Manchester United confirm Michael Carrick’s backroom staff
Manchester United has unveiled the five backroom staff who will work alongside new head coach Michael Carrick, who on Friday, May 22, 2026, committed to the club for a further two years.
The Premier League giants confirmed that the Englishman will continue in his role beyond the end of this season, after signing a contract until 2028.
He will now lead the team alongside the help of assistants Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, Travis Binnion, and Craig Mawson, the goalkeepers’ trainer.
The five have been part of the coaching unit after Carrick’s return to the club in January 2026.

Holland brings a wealth of experience, from stints with the England national team under Gareth Southgate as well as earlier in his career with Chelsea. He also had a stint in Japan before joining United.
Woodgate, a former English Premier League defender with a stint at Real Madrid, who was also part of Carrick’s staff during their time at Middlesbrough, is also another in the team’s confirmed coaching lineup.

The ex-centre back came on board when Carrick joined in January 2026.
The most recognisable face of the four is Jonny Evans, a three-time Premier League winner, well known to the Reds through two stints as a player.
The Belfast-born Northern Irishman rose through the club academy ranks as a youngster before returning later in his career for a two-season stay in the summer of 2023.

After leaving United in the 2024/25 season, Evans later announced his retirement in May 2025; he stayed on at the club as loan and pathway manager before becoming part of Carrick’s coaching staff.
Binnion and Mawson complete the team’s coaching staff ahead of the new season.
Binnion, formerly with the under-18s and under-21s, stepped up to the first-team staff during Darren Fletcher’s interim spell earlier this season and remained once Carrick was appointed.
Mawson, on the other hand, is another longstanding United name, the goalkeeping coach having been with the club since 2019.
The 46-year-old remained upon Carrick’s arrival and is set to stay as part of the group as we begin to look ahead to the 2026/27 season, following our final-day assignment at Brighton & Hove Albion.
