Manchester City has opened a new Ksh1.7 billion state-of-the-art facility for its women’s team at the City Football Academy, the largest-ever investment dedicated to the first team environment for an elite women’s football team.

The 17,000 square feet incorporates the very highest standards for elite football environments with a world-class gym, specialist strength and conditioning facilities, dedicated medical, rehabilitation, and physio spaces, and hydrotherapy and recovery areas.

“The site includes the 7,000-capacity Joie Stadium, the first purpose-built stadium in the Women’s Super League, as well as access to over 1,000 staff across the wider club’s ecosystem,” part of City’s statement read.

At its heart lies the circular dressing room, designed to support team connection and further improve player development while leveraging industry-leading technology aimed at optimising player preparation and recovery and minimising injuries.

According to the update from the club, inputs from first-team players and staff shaped the construction of the grandiose facility, making it more of a dedicated new home for the squad.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, speaking during the official opening, said the hallmark of City’s ambition to women’s football.

“This new facility marks the next logical step in our long-term commitment to Manchester City Women’s, and is an important milestone for the club as a whole.

Future of women’s football

“We have always believed in investing to create the right environment for players and staff to develop and succeed. That approach has underpinned every aspect of our work since the professional relaunch of Manchester City Women in 2014.

“The facility therefore rightly reflects the scale of our ambition for Manchester City Women and our long-term belief in the future of the women’s game.”

Manchester City Women have already been crowned the 2026 Women’s Super League champions after pipping Chelsea, the past six-time champions, to the accolade this term.

They garnered 52 points in the campaign, with a 100 per cent win record at the Joie and Etihad Stadium, to seal their 9th major title since 2014, with the team also due to play in the FA Cup Final on Saturday, May 31, 2026.
