Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will not feature in the upcoming fixture against Manchester United, while goalkeeper Alisson remains a major doubt ahead of Sunday, May 3, 2026, 5:30 pm kick-off

While encounters between these historic rivals are always highly anticipated, this particular meeting carries added importance due to its implications on Premier League standings and next season’s UEFA Champions League qualification.

Chasing UCL ticket

United are aware that securing all three points would confirm their qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. At the same time, there is also the battle for third place to consider, with last season’s champions trailing by just three points and a slight deficit in goal difference.

Finishing above Slot’s side would be significant for many United supporters, and the atmosphere at Old Trafford is expected to be electric.

Liverpool’s squad

Salah picked up what appeared to be a hamstring issue during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in their previous outing. The Egyptian forward, who has often troubled United in past meetings, is now set to miss what could have been his final appearance in this fixture before departing Anfield at the end of the season.

Although there is optimism he could return before the campaign concludes, this match comes too soon.

“As we know from Mo, [he is] always working incredibly hard,” Slot said during his pre-match press briefing.

“Usually, he is earlier fit than other players from a minor injury but not for Sunday.”

Freddie Woodman stepped in during the Palace game and could retain his place between the posts. Meanwhile, Alisson is pushing for a return, though Giorgi Mamardashvili remains unavailable after suffering an injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

“It’s a bonus for every player that comes back,” Slot added. “Ali hasn’t trained yet, [but is] very close to training, so I have to speak to the medical staff.

“We don’t want to take any risks. But there is a difference between an [outfield] player and a goalkeeper in terms of coming back.”

“He is very close but we, of course, don’t want to take any risks because that’s not what you want for any player.”

Other absentees

Liverpool will definitely be without Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, and Hugo Ekitike. Meanwhile, Milos Kerkez is facing a late fitness check.

“Milos has had some niggles, and left the training pitch on Wednesday. I expect him to train today or tomorrow.”

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick is expected to provide an update on his squad during Friday’s press conference.
