Tusker stun Gor Mahia to clinch 2026 FKF Super Cup trophy

Tusker FC are the 2026 Kenya Super Cup champions after defeating Gor Mahia 3–1 in the season curtain-raiser at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Julien Mette’s side stunned the reigning league champions to secure their first silverware of the campaign. Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor handed starting berths to several new arrivals, including Humphrey Katasi, Denis Omedi, and Enock Machaka.

The Brewers controlled the early exchanges, although K’Ogalo came close when Daniel Sakari delivered a dangerous cross that was cleared off the goal line.

The deserved opener arrived when Francis Oduor swept home a well-taken free-kick from the edge of the box. Providing the spark Mette’s side needed, Tusker went 2–0 up just minutes later. A lively Eugene Ikutwa controlled a pass before rifling an unstoppable shot past Katasi, leaving the Green Army fans in the stands stunned.

Gor hit back

K’Ogalo found a response before the break as Ikutwa went from hero to villain, turning the ball into his own net to halve the deficit five minutes before half-time.

Seeking a way back into the tie, Gor Mahia made a double substitution at the start of the second period, bringing off Omedi and Machaka for Ebenezer Assifuah and pacey winger Musa Shariff.

Simiyu’s stunner

However, proceedings turned sour for the trailing side as the Brewers grabbed their third shortly after. Ian Simiyu got on the score sheet, continuing his heroics from Tusker’s 2026 Shield success by slicing home a cross from Muteheli to put the game out of reach.

Tusker cements dominance

Buoyed by the two-goal cushion, the Brewers held on firmly to claim the first silverware in an evening that was not just Gor Mahia’s day.

The victory sees the Brewers extend their dominance over Gor Mahia in the annual season curtain-raiser. The success marked their fourth trophy in what has been an intriguing rivalry pitting the two sides in the history of the competition. The meeting was the team’s sixth meeting in which Gor Mahia had claimed outright victory in one occasion (2017), and the other four encounters had to be decided on post-match penalties.

Tusker’s previous victorious campaign via post-match penalty shootouts were in 2012, 2014, and 2021.
