Gor Mahia’s crowning as league champions for a record-extending 22nd time will go down as a historic day in the club’s storied folklore.

After a tense year-long wait, the Kenyan giants reclaimed their throne in spectacular fashion at a packed Nyayo Stadium. More than just a trophy presentation, the event doubled as a massive reunion, bringing together past players, sporting icons, and a passionate fanbase bound by a fierce allegiance to K’Ogalo.

Elite guests

Among the prominent personalities joining the title party was Raila Odinga Jr, son of the club’s long-term patron and former prime minister, Raila Odinga.

Taking to Facebook on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Raila Jr. couldn’t hide his elation after crossing paths with former Gor Mahia lethal striker and Harambee Stars skipper, Michael Olunga.

The two were spotted sharing a warm embrace in the stands, with the decorated Olunga passing on a heartfelt message to Junior.

Legends and former icons reunion

The stands were also graced by a contingent of former Gor Mahia stars who returned to witness their beloved club’s crowning moment. Among the notable former employees in attendance were Lebanon-based midfielder Austin Odhiambo and Alphonce Omija, who currently plies his trade in the Tunisian top-tier with Étoile Sportive du Sahel.

In one of the most wholesome moments of the evening, Odhiambo was seen sharing a laugh with Jackson Dwang and his former AFC Leopards teammate, Lewis Bandi. Bandi, who crossed the bitter Mashemeji divide in a sensational transfer to Gor Mahia, ended the night celebrating his first league title as a champion.

Adding to the star power of the historic night, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) supremo Hussein Mohammed, alongside the league’s main sponsor, Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri, took centre stage.

Amid an electric atmosphere and deafening cheers from the Green Army, the duo handed over the immaculate, gleaming trophy to the new champions, cementing Gor Mahia’s place once again as the leading force of Kenyan football.
