Football Kenya Federation Premier League top scorer Joe Waithira became the latest export to secure a move to paid ranks after landing a deal with South Sudanese outfit Jamus SC.

News of the Murang’a Seal’s mercurial attacker was made public by the club on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Nicknamed the Elephants, Jamus FC remains a rising powerhouse in South Sudanese football, enjoying a meteoric rise since its establishment in 2004. Despite being a relatively young team, the club has already represented the budding nation on the continental front, debuting in the 2024 CAF games.

Club history and records

The club was founded in 2004 as both a social and cultural entity, with formal restructuring occurring later around 2009 during the build-up to South Sudan’s independence.

The club has in the past qualified for CAF continental competitions, making their debut appearances on the big stage over the last two seasons. Their debut came in 2024 when they captured their first major top-flight silverware by capturing the 2024 South Sudan National Cup.

Jamus narrowly missed out on the 2026 South Sudan Premier League title to rivals El-Merreikh Bentiu, despite beating them 1-0 in the final league game of the season. The Sudan giants went on to secure a domestic double, walking away with both the league title and the South Sudan National Cup.

The Kenyan connection

The Juba-based outfit has developed a strong relationship with Kenyan players, a trend that began with the signing of Hanif Wesonga. The former KCB and Harambee Stars centre-back has been a key figure for the club since linking up with them eleven months ago from the Bankers.

Former KCB coach Godfrey Oduor also had a stint at the helm for the better part of 2025 before returning to Kenyan soil to take over the managerial role at National Super League (NSL) side Nairobi United.

Meanwhile, at his new workstation, former FKF Premier League leading scorer Joe Waithira joins an equally potent offensive line boasting highly acclaimed attackers.

Leading the attack is Cameroonian forward Georges Rodrigues Mfegue, who finished the 2026 season as the South Sudan league’s top scorer with 23 goals. The frontline has been further bolstered by Cameroonian winger Etame Florian Steve, who arrived from Brazilian club Associação Atlética on a two-year contract signed on June 6, 2026.

As part of an elaborate recruitment strategy that brought Waithira to the club, Jamus has heavily reinforced its ranks by acquiring several top talents from across the continent.

South Sudan national team star Emmanuel Loki is among the high-profile arrivals. The striker signed a one-year contract with the club following a stint with Calvary FC in Uganda. Other notable additions include Sierra Leone’s Sebastian Teclar, who adds variety to the offensive options, and South Sudanese defender Joseph Dhata, who joined the club from Uganda Premier League side NEC FC.

FIFA transfer ban lifted

The club’s aggressive recruitment drive was made possible after they successfully overturned an active, FIFA-imposed transfer and registration ban. The ban was officially lifted on May 14, 2026, following the successful completion of all necessary legal and financial procedures, alongside the settlement of outstanding claims involving a Congolese player.
