FKF Premier League Gala Awards set to crown season’s top performers

The curtain is set to fall on the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation League season with the inaugural Gala Awards scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, where the country’s finest footballers, coaches, clubs, fans, and journalists will be recognised for their contributions throughout the campaign.

The awards ceremony will celebrate outstanding achievements from a season that saw Gor Mahia emerge as league champions while several players and teams delivered remarkable performances across the country.

Morrison, Owili and Waithira battle for top honour

One of the most anticipated awards of the evening will be the Player of the Season accolade. Three standout performers have been shortlisted for the prestigious honour: Gor Mahia midfielder Enock Morrison, Mara Sugar defender Jimmy Owili, and Murang’a Seal striker Joseph Waithira.

Morrison played a key role in Gor Mahia’s successful title-winning campaign, providing leadership and creativity in midfield. Owili established himself as one of the league’s most dependable defenders and was instrumental in Mara Sugar’s impressive season. Meanwhile, Waithira, popularly known as “King Joe,” earned recognition for his goalscoring exploits that helped elevate Murang’a Seal’s profile in the top flight.

The three nominees represent different positions on the pitch, underlining the diverse talent that has defined the season.

Coach of the Season race heats up

Competition for the Coach of the Season award is expected to be equally fierce. Gor Mahia’s Charles Akonnor, AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani, and APS Bomet’s Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo have all been nominated following successful campaigns with their respective clubs.

Akonnor guided Gor Mahia to league glory, while Ambani oversaw a significant improvement at AFC Leopards. Omollo has also been rewarded for steering APS Bomet through an impressive season, making the category one of the toughest to predict.

Young stars recognised

The league will also honour emerging talent through the Young Player of the Season category. Kariobangi Sharks’ Humphrey Aroko, Nairobi United’s Kevin Wangaya, and Mara Sugar’s Robinson Musungu have been nominated after producing outstanding performances throughout the season.

The trio has been widely regarded as among the brightest young prospects in Kenyan football and their nominations reflect their growing influence on the domestic game.

Journalists and content creators to be honoured

Beyond achievements on the field, the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) will oversee the selection of the Golden Pen Award and the Content Creator of the Year Award.

SJAK President James Waindi emphasised the importance of media professionals in growing the sport.

“The Golden Pen Award and Content Creator of the Year categories celebrate the vital role that journalists, broadcasters, photographers, videographers, and digital creators play in connecting fans to the game. Their work helps preserve the history of our sport, inspire future generations, and elevate the profile of Kenyan football,” said Waindi.

Fans to decide key awards

Fans will have a direct say in determining the winners of the Goal of the Season and Save of the Season awards through public voting.

Voting opens on Wednesday, June 3, across official SportPesa League and Football Kenya Federation social media platforms.

The gala will also recognize winners in several other categories, including Golden Boot, Golden Glove, Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Goal of the Season, Save of the Season, Team of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, Fan of the Season, Best Referee, Most Disciplined Player, Most Disciplined Team, and the President’s Award.
