FKF announces new kick-off dates for 2026/27 FKF Premier League
By Luke Oluoch, August 29, 2026The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed new dates for the 2026/27 League season following a High Court ruling in Murang’a that cleared the way for the top-flight campaign to commence.
The decision follows the nullification of the initial August 29, 2026, kickoff due to a lingering legal tussle over league composition and promotion-relegation criteria. With the dispute resolved, the action gets underway with newly promoted 3K FC from Embu hosting Mara Sugar in a 1:00 PM kickoff.
New fixtures
That opener will be followed by Mathare United taking on APS Bomet at the Police Sacco Grounds at 3:00 PM.
Defending champions Gor Mahia will launch their title defense against Murang’a SEAL on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Nyayo National Stadium, with kickoff set for 4:00 PM.
Meanwhile, 2026 league runners-up AFC Leopards will host Bandari FC at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Another Wednesday fixture will see Shabana travel to Wanguru Stadium in Mwea to face Posta Rangers at 3:00 pm
The new changes and confirmation come after the initial kickoff date slated for Saturday, August 29, 2026, was nullified due to a lingering tussle over the composition of the league, as the candidates for promotion and relegation were not clearly defined.
Legal tussle
This uncertainty stemmed from a conflict over whether the 2025 rules or the older 2019 regulations should govern the league. The two sets of rules outline different criteria for determining which teams are promoted and relegated at the end of every season.
The impasse required legal intervention, with the High Court in Murang’a ultimately clearing the way for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to commence the 2026/27 SportPesa League season.
Under the court’s ruling, the campaign will be governed by the 2019 regulations rather than the 2025 rules used last term.
