Early silverware prospects as Gor Mahia and Tusker battle in FKF Super Cup showdown

FKF Premier League rivals Gor Mahia and Tusker FC are set to renew their fierce domestic rivalry in the 2026 FKF Super Cup on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The traditional season curtain-raiser will pit 2025/26 league champions Gor Mahia FC against FKF Cup winners Tusker FC in a high-stakes encounter at Nyayo Stadium.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed the details of the highly anticipated clash, which gets underway at 3:00 pm.
Early silverware
For both clubs, claiming early silverware will offer a chance to lay down a marker ahead of what is expected to be another grueling top-flight campaign.
Thanks to their Shield Cup success, Tusker earned their place in the 2026 Super Cup showdown, giving them an immediate opportunity to grab the first trophy of the new season.
The Ruaraka-based side has been on an upward trajectory following the arrival of coach Julien Mette midway through last season.

The French tactician spearheaded a massive rebuild of personnel and tactics, transforming their fortunes on the pitch.
After overcoming a slow start, the Brewers capped off their domestic campaign with a ninth-place finish and 45 points.
The resurgence went another notch with the club ending rivals Kenya Police 2–1 on June 14, 2026, in Kwale to clinch the domestic cup and end their recent long wait for a top-flight trophy.
CECAFA Kagame Cup exploits
Both sides recently represented Kenya in the CECAFA Kagame Cup regional championship in Rwanda. Despite falling short of bringing the trophy home after bowing out in the final against Rayon Sports, Charles Akonnor’s Gor Mahia emerged with credit following impressive performances against top regional competition.

The Green Army will be determined to maintain their momentum in Sunday’s Super Cup clash, approaching the match on the back of claiming early silverware on Sunday, August 16, 2026, following a penalty-shootout victory over Migori Youth FC to lift the Green Legacy Cup.
After the Shield Cup, the two clubs face a busy period ahead, beyond the FKF Premier League campaign, as they will be out to prove their mettle on the continental stage while marking their return to the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup games.
