Confirmed FKF PL award winners as 2025/26 season ends

With Gor Mahia crowned as the champions of the Kenyan top-flight football league, several outright winners from individual categories were confirmed as the season reached its climax on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Among the top honours were the Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards, which recognise the division’s best goal scorer and goalkeeper.

The Golden Boot race

Joe Waithira took home the coveted Golden Boot crown after netting an impressive 19 goals throughout the 2025/26 campaign. Waithira’s clinical tally was two goals clear of his closest rival, Paul Okoth of Ulinzi Stars, who finished the season with 18 goals.

Survival and relegation battle

While the title and top scorer races were settled, drama unfolded at the bottom of the table. Ulinzi Stars managed to edge out Posta Rangers in a decisive final-day victory, leaving Kariobangi Sharks awaiting their fate after finishing in the 16th position.

Bidco United and Sofapaka were the relegated sides following the final whistle of the season.

The Golden Glove excellence

In the goalkeeping department, Shabana FC’s Stephen Ochieng lifted the 2025/26 Premier League Golden Glove award after registering 16 clean sheets. The former Ulinzi Stars shot-stopper secured the feat as the season’s outstanding custodian, finishing ahead of tough competition from AFC Leopards’ Humphrey Katasi and Bandari’s Alain Ngeleka.

End-of-season nominees

Following the conclusion of the final matchday, the official nominees for the end-of-season awards were unveiled.

The awards are headlined by the prestigious Player of the Season accolade. Golden Boot winner Joe Waithira is heavily tipped for the prize, but he faces stiff competition from a stellar shortlist:

  • Enock Morrison (Gor Mahia)
  • Shariff Musa (Gor Mahia)
  • Kayci Odhiambo (AFC Leopards)
  • Jimmy Owili (Mara Sugar)

In other categories, a force battle is on the cards as best coaches and emerging talents in the league go head to head.

Several young players who made a strong impact during the season have been shortlisted for the Young Player of the Year accolade.

The nominees are Kariobangi Sharks winger Humphrey Aroko, Nairobi United midfielder Kevin Wangaya, Mara Sugar defender Robinson Musungu, Kakamega Homeboyz forward Oliver Machaka, and AFC Leopards youngster Kelly Madada.

In the best gaffer category, Ghanaian title-winning coach Charles Akonnor, AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani, and APS Bomet’s Sammy Omollo will battle for the gong.

Akonnor guided Gor Mahia to league glory, Ambani led AFC Leopards through a competitive season, and Omollo earned recognition for his work at APS Bomet.

With the list of candidates for the end-of-season awards out, focus now turns to the annual awards event scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, at a Nairobi hotel.
