CAF Champions League: Gor Mahia fans refuse to give up after Pyramids defeat
By Joel Masibo, September 9, 2026Gor Mahia supporters have continued to stand by the club following the team’s 2-0 home loss to Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the opening leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round encounter at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Although the result left K’Ogalo facing a difficult task ahead of the second leg, sections of the club’s fanbase have called on the players to remain positive, address the shortcomings from the first meeting and approach the return fixture with determination.
“It is painful to lose at home, but this is not the time to give up. The boys should keep their heads high and believe in themselves. We still have another 90 minutes in Egypt,” one fan said.
Another supporter admitted that overturning the deficit in Egypt would be a major challenge but maintained that the players could still count on the backing of the club’s faithful.
“It will not be easy in Cairo, we know that. Pyramids are a very good team, but football can surprise you. We want our players to fight until the final whistle. We still believe,” the fan said.
Gor Mahia created opportunities during the contest but were unable to make the most of them, while mistakes at the back gave Pyramids the advantage and enabled the visitors to establish a commanding position in the tie.
The supporters have urged the squad to use the disappointing outcome as fuel for the second encounter rather than allowing it to affect their confidence.
“Forget the result for now and concentrate on the return leg. We have seen Gor Mahia make comebacks before. What we need is confidence, discipline and fighting spirit. We will continue supporting the team,” he said.
Despite the defeat, fans also recognised the effort put in by the players and encouraged head coach Charles Akonnor and his squad to draw lessons from the first-leg performance.
“This is a learning moment. We have lost, but Gor Mahia is bigger than one defeat. Let the players stay united and prepare well because we still believe in K’Ogalo,” another supporter added.
The mood among the Gor Mahia faithful remains one of cautious optimism. While the two-goal defeat has made their path to the next round considerably harder, supporters insist that the result has not ended their faith in the team.
Attention now shifts to the return fixture on Sunday, September 13, 2026, where Gor Mahia will be expected to regroup, eliminate the errors that cost them in Nairobi and produce a much-improved display in a bid to keep their CAF Champions League campaign alive.
