Kenya U17 national women’s football team, Junior Starlets head coach, Mildred Cheche, has described her recent visit to two of England’s most iconic stadiums as a defining moment in her professional journey, crediting the FIFA Elite Mentorship Program for the opportunity.

Cheche revealed that she had the rare privilege of stepping inside Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea FC, and Emirates Stadium, the fortress of Arsenal FC. She referred to the two venues as “iconic cathedrals of football,” regarding their rich history and global significance in the sport.

”Chelsea Arena. The Emirates. Two iconic cathedrals of football — and through the FIFA Elite Mentorship Program, I had the privilege of experiencing both, while connecting with elite coaches from across the globe,” she shared.

While the grandeur of the stadiums left a lasting impression, Cheche, in her Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Facebook post, emphasised that the most meaningful aspect of the trip was the opportunity to engage with top-tier coaches from around the world.

Through the FIFA Elite Mentorship Program, she connected with some of the brightest minds in football, exchanging ideas, experiences, and perspectives that she believes will shape the future of her coaching journey.

”The stadiums were breathtaking, but the conversations, shared passion, and global perspectives exchanged with some of the best minds in the game made this trip truly unforgettable. Grateful for the doors this program continues to open. The journey is just beginning,” Cheche added.

According to Cheche, the conversations went beyond tactics and match-day strategies. They revolved around leadership, innovation, player development, and the evolving demands of modern football.

Mentorship programme

Meanwhile, the third edition of FIFA’s Elite Performance: Coach Mentorship Programme is in full swing, with the second workshop having been staged in London, England. The initiative pairs 20 of the game’s most accomplished coaches with members of the next wave of talented female tacticians from across the global game.

The workshop was held on the sidelines of the final stage of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2026, enabling participants to experience the excitement served up during the home straight of the trailblazing tournament in the English capital, where they enjoyed some time on the training pitch at Chelsea’s facilities. The 18-month programme aims to support participants’ career development by equipping them with knowledge and facilitating connections between mentors and mentees.
