Is the record falling again? Sabastian Sawe to participate in Berlin 2026 Marathon
Sabastian Sawe, who ran a world record of 1:59:30 to win in London on Sunday, April 26, 2026, will be competing in the Berlin Marathon in September 2026.
The competition organisers, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, confirmed the 2026 winner will be returning to the German capital to defend his title.
Record-Breaker
The race will take place on September 27, 2026, just over five months after his incredible record-breaking feat in the streets of England’s capital, London.
The Kenyan became the first-ever person to run a sub-two-hour marathon on a legal course in the British capital. He clocked a staggering 1:59:30 to not only defend his London Marathon title but also smash the previous world record set by the late Kelvin Kiptum in 2023
Last year, the athlete from Nandi County won the Berlin Marathon in a time of 2:02:16, in much warmer conditions.

Speaking on his anticipated return, the Adidas athlete said he was honour to receive the invite for the event. He committed to running a much faster race backed by good preparation.
The champ is back!
“Many people may be wondering what my goals are this time around. After coming off my win in London and sub-2 performance, I can only say that, like always, I plan to prepare myself to the best of my ability and to come to Berlin to honour this great event and organisation that have invited me and to run as well, and fast as possible. Then on the day we will see what will happen,” Sawe said.
The silent assassin remains unbeaten in all his marathons, as the world keeps on guessing the heights he could reach.
The course is considered one of the flattest ones, paved with high-quality asphalt that is notably smoother and ‘softer’ than the concrete used in many American city marathons.
Having competed under the searing heat (reaching 25°C), which caused him to lose his pacemakers before the 30 km mark, fingers will remain crossed as to what the Kenyan can achieve after demystifying the extent of human limits with his performance in London.
