Germany targets Klopp
Germany’s shock Round of 32 exit against Uruguay triggered immediate restructuring within the German Football Association.
The federation is now in advanced talks to agree on terms with former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
Speaking to Magenta TV, Klopp confirmed that discussions were progressing smoothly:
“We are not that far away from being able to make an announcement. Ideally, in the next few days.”
Italy pursue Pep Guardiola following technical overhaul
Meanwhile, the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) has reportedly opened direct dialogue with Pep Guardiola to tempt him into international management, according to Sky in Italy. Guardiola is currently on a sabbatical following a trophy-laden decade at Manchester City.
Determined to rebuild after enduring a difficult decade—including missing back-to-back World Cups despite boasting top-flight European talent, the FIGC is restructuring its entire technical setup.
A deal could see the decorated manager return to the touchline sooner than expected.
Former legend Paolo Maldini has been appointed as the new National Team Technical Director, with Leonardo joining as a technical advisor to support the proposed project.
Scaloni eyeing exit
The prospective appointment of Zinedine Zidane as France’s next head coach following Didier Deschamps exit, also highlights the growing need for proven, serial winners at the international level.
Beyond Europe, South American champions Argentina could also join the search for a marquee manager. Lionel Scaloni signalled that his tenure may be drawing to a close at the end of the year, opening the door for a new era post-Lionel Messi.
