The Mathare Kids Talent Hub is the proud beneficiary of a lucrative Ksh100,000 humanitarian cheque, courtesy of Harambee Stars and Kenya Police FC defender Abud Omar.

The defender, accompanied by his teammates David Sakari and Joshua Onyango, visited the kids’ talent centre to fulfill his promise of donating his Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup humanitarian cheque.

Omar won the award following his stellar exploits in the FKF Cup round of 16 tie against Shabana FC. His sublime, first-half free-kick secured the win on a rain-soaked pitch at the Gusii Stadium on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

While both FKF PL rivals were dubbed favourites ahead of the clash, it was Nicholas Muyoti’s men who lived up to the tag to eliminate the Gusii-based club.

Speaking after receiving recognition, the Mombasa-born star hailed the kids for their unique skills, which have turned them into a social media sensation. Their sleek moves have caught the attention of various celebrities, including East African heartthrob Bien-Aimé.

While other footballers have chosen to share their prizes with formal football academies, Omar took a different route, stating he preferred to share his reward with the slum-based youngsters.

He noted that he had been deeply touched by their talent, explaining how they have chosen to stay away from societal vices to inspire their community through wholesome recreational activities.

Inspiration

“These kids are an inspiration. Personally, rather than turning to drugs and other vices that many youths have fallen prey to, they managed to find something useful and immerse their individual talents in it, and I am happy to share this cheque with them,” he revealed.

In an interview with a local publication moments after delivering the goodies, the Kenyan international shared how he got acquainted with the kids’ group.

Delighted

“I first learned about the incredible talent and potential of these children during the 2024 African Nations Championship through Chrispine Erambo. Since then, I have kept a close eye on their activities. After winning the Man of the Match award, Erambo encouraged me to give back, and I was delighted to meet the children and make a difference in their lives,” he said.

His altruistic donation comes shortly after Tusker FC striker Ibrahim Joshua similarly shared his prize money with the Mathare North Sports Academy.

Looking ahead, Omar’s Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC will be the teams battling it out for a coveted CAF Confederation Cup berth and a financial reward of Ksh 3 million, which awaits the tournament winners in the final to be staged in Kwale.
