Gor Mahia Queens’ FKF WPL promotion push ends in disappointment
By Luke Oluoch, June 7, 2026Gor Mahia Queens’ push for a return to the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) has ended in disappointment following a 2-0 defeat to Elim White Ladies in the high-stakes playoff on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
The defeat at Afraha Stadium marks a heartbreaking end to the season for the K’Ogalo women. They had hoped to write a new chapter in Kenyan women’s football and take the first step toward replicating their male counterparts’ historic dominance of Kenyan football by securing promotion to the top tier.
The highly anticipated playoff pitted Gor Mahia Queens, who finished second in Zone A with 40 points behind Mathare United Women, against the formidable Zone B runners-up.
Elim White Ladies took an early advantage through Sylvia Kapera, whose sublime strike gave her side a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The Trans-Nzoia-based outfit then sealed their promotion in the second half, when Noel Amutata added the second goal to put the game completely out of reach.
Gor Mahia’s defeat extends a painful trend for Zone A teams, who have now fallen at the hands of their Zone B counterparts in the promotion playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
In the 2023/24 season, Kayole Starlets fell to Kisped Queens FC; in 2024/25, Bandari Women FC were defeated by Gideon Starlets (Gideon Girls); and now, Gor Mahia Queens have suffered a similar fate.

Formerly known as Trans Nzoia Falcons, Elim White Ladies is a club that operates primarily as a faith-rooted community team and will now join Mathare United and Shabana Starlets in the list of newly promoted teams set to feature in the women’s top-tier league for the 2026/27 season.
Meanwhile, as a culmination of another highly competitive season of women’s football, Zone A champions Mathare United Women are scheduled to battle Zone B winners Shabana FC Women to determine the overall Women’s National Super League (WNSL) champion.
