Gor Mahia Queens claim bragging rights in dramatic Mashemeji Derby revenge
By Luke Oluoch, April 19, 2026Gor Mahia Queens made light work of their AFC Leopardess rivals in a Mashemeji Derby during an FKF Women’s National Super League fixture played on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Kenya School of Law.
Goals from Doreen Obiero and Rael Kamanda earned bragging rights for the Green Army Queens as Leopards slumped to their second defeat in three games, a run that has dented their promotion chances.
Despite taking an early lead through Ivy Nyakha, Ingwe Ladies found the proceedings tough against the clinical Gor Queens.
K’Ogalo hit back at the half-hour mark, converting from the penalty spot to level the score. Both teams headed into halftime on level pegging, setting the stage for a hard-fought second half.
Kamanda doubles Gor’s lead.
Gor Mahia returned much stronger and took the lead after Rael Kamanda scored within a minute of entering the field. The attacker, alongside Elizabeth Akinyi, had been summoned from the bench in a double change that saw Yvonne Adhiambo and Jennifer Musembi make way.
Doreen Obiero then put the game beyond Leopardess just after the hour mark, as Gor Mahia dominated play throughout the second half.
The result continues a spate of inconsistent form for Ingwe, who have played to a draw against Samba Ladies and suffered a loss to Bandari Queens in their past two league games.
The Gor Mahia vice chair Sally Bolo, hailed the girls’ performance, describing it as revenge served cold after their arch-rivals ran out 1-0 winners in the first-leg meeting.
“Gor Mahia Queens said revenge is served hot. 3-1 over AFC Leopardess in the Mashemeji Derby… statement made, lesson delivered. The first leg was theirs, but this time order is restored. Proud of our girls for showing character and class when it mattered most,” the vice-chair stated.
